Adding value - 14th February 2012

Recently, I was in the USA visiting some education thinkers and looking at the similarities - or otherwise - of some of the challenges that the education system faces here in England.

Onwards & upwards for 2012! - 25th January 2012

Whichever way you look at it, 2012 is shaping up to be quite an important year, with plenty to get ready for – particularly in the education field!

2011: Looking Back for Learning Plus UK - 19th December 2011

With Christmas and the New Year fast approaching, I thought it would be a good opportunity to look back at the last 12 months and share with you some of the exciting things that have happened at Learning Plus UK in 2011.

iPads, Information & Improvement - 8th November 2011

The news earlier this week that an Academy school in Penzance, Cornwall, was giving away new iPads to their students set me thinking about the power of the technology and the way in which it continues to transform the education world.

The Art of Good Teaching - 22nd September 2011

It is always good to hear creativity guru Sir Ken Robinson talk passionately about the future of teaching and his video appearance at last weekend’s TED conference in London certainly did not disappoint. Sir Ken reminded us that teaching is not just a job, or a vocation, but should be seen as an art form by using an analogy about the theatre; he said the only thing that matters about the theatre is the relationship between the actor and the audience.

Results day beckons - 15th July 2011

Like thousands of families up and down the country, we are building up to the climax of the school year – results day!  My sixteen year old daughter is busily resting after all the hard work of the exams before we get her GCSE results on 25 August 2011. Lies, damned lies & data - 17th May 2011

As we all know, the Government is firmly committed to increasing the amount of information available to the public, particularly in the world of education where data on the performance of schools, colleges and young people has long been debated.

Is 14 too early - 11th March 2011

Over the last week I've been thinking about the new breed of schools, University Technical Colleges.  Focused on bringing together employers and the higher education sector, these 14-19 academies are seen by Lord Baker as the last rung in the education ladder as laid out under the 1944 Education Act.

Berkshire Conference 2011 - 18th February 2011

Events like our conferences and networks provide such a space – bringing together practitioners and those at the leading edge of policy to help us make sense of the new world and how we can continue to make a real difference to children and young people.
